Aarhus University Press publishes Constructive News – how to save the media and democracy with journalism of tomorrow on 1 December 2017. Constructive News documents the trust meltdown facing news media, journalism, and democracy. At the same time, the book is full of hope, examples and guidelines on how we can reinstall trust in news.
Endorsed by former chancellor of West Germany, Helmut Schmidt, and the Director General of The United Nations, Michael Moeller, Constructive News explains why Trump was elected, Brexit happened and why the news media is not only part of the problem but also can be a major part of the solution.
Democracy needs journalism. Nevertheless, the news industry is struggling for a meaning as more and more people turn their backs on traditional news. While many journalists went into the news business to do good for society, they have ended up building depression, distrust and apathy. The job of journalism is to throw light. Journalism should document wrongdoings, but also facilitate debates about how to deal with the problems.
