Constructive Institute participates at Frítt Flog Democracy Festival for children in Tórshavn, the Faroe Islands

March 21, 2026

From Thursday 19th of March to Sunday 22nd of March, children can learn more about democracy and elections when the Constructive Institute format Election Festival opens its doors in Tórshavn in the Faroe Islands.

The Democracy Festival is part of a broader initiative in which representatives from across the Nordic region aim to create meaningful encounters between children and democracy through workshops, performances, and concerts at the Nordic House in Tórshavn.
Next week, the Faroe Islands has two elections — on 24th of March for the Danish Parliament and on 26th of March for the Løgtingið (the Faroese Parliament). Ulrik Haagerup, CEO of the Constructive Institute, is thrilled that the Election Festival concept is now being carried out in other parts of the Kingdom of Denmark as part of the Frítt Flog Festival.

“It is absolutely crucial in this era, where polarization seems to be becoming the next pandemic, that we do not take democracy for granted. No one can safeguard democracy alone, but through shared efforts we can create change. That is exactly what we are seeing in Tórshavn these days, where many dedicated people are working toward the same goal: to underscore that democracy belongs to everyone – regardless of age,” says Ulrik Haagerup.

Yor Vote. Our Democracy

In the autumn of 2025, Constructive Institute launched a collaboration and national partnership leading up to the municipal and regional elections under the title Your Vote. Our Denmark.

The ambition was to bring together media, politicians, and citizens of all ages to support and celebrate democracy. The shared public conversation is vital at a time when democracy is under pressure. Your Vote. Our Denmark included a series of initiatives culminating in 10 election festivals around Denmark, where the traditional voter meeting was transformed into community singing, LEGO building, and treasure hunts — topped off with a range of innovative political debates.

With the Constructive Institute’s participation in the Frítt Flog Festival, the experiences from Your Vote. Our Denmark are carried into other parts of the Kingdom of Denmark, as children from across the Faroe Islands are invited to build the future in LEGO, design their own election poster, and cast their very first vote.

A vote for the tooth fairy is a vote on democracy

The Frítt Flog Democracy Festival, celebrates community and one of the most important pillars of our society: democracy.

The target group is children aged 3–13, and both schools and families are offered a rich and inspiring program where, among other things, they can vote for the Tooth Fairy — who campaigns for a ban on children eating sweets and free toothbrushes for all. Not surprisingly Santa Claus won the election the two first days of the festival.
