From Monday the 7th of September until Thursday the 10th of September the Constructive Institute hosted a Youth Workshop in Constructive Journalism at the Past Forward Festival in Hamburg.

At a workshop in Hamburg Project Lead at the Constructive Institute, Jesper Himmelstrup and Project Coordinator, Sonja Morell Lundorff, taught 40 young Europeans from 20 different countries how to apply constructive journalism when covering historical topics in short video formats.

The workshop is part of the Past Forward Festival which marks the 25th year anniversary of the EUSTORY programme – a European initiative that strenghtens democratic dialogue across Europe through national history competitions and cultural exchange.

“Our mission is to meet the past and the future in a constructive and forward looking manner and to meet the challenges in a brave and courageous way, and I think that’s what you portrayed in your workshop as well,” says Programme Manager at EUSTORY, Jana Faßbender.

The workshop draws on learnings from our concept ‘Journalist for a day’ which has been tried and tested on more than 10.000 young Danes. Read more about the project here.

“It’s amazing to see how our concept translates to a broader European audience. Even though these young Europeans have very different cultural backgrounds, they have a shared visual language and a constructive approach to journalism that gives me hope for the next generation,” says Project Coordinator at the Constructive Institute, Sonja Morell Lundorff.
